Birthday Boy Gets His Wish

Saturday night we celebrated our baby's 9th birthday...he wanted a bonfire and it has been really cool for this time of year...
So we had a bonfire and roasted hotdogs and made smores :)
That is such a great CHEAP way to celebrate and little boys love to play in fire.
Forty-six year old women like it pretty good too...welllll my heart had been beating wildly all day and by a.m. Sunday I got myself a trip to the ER where they admitted me.
I am on a blood thinner for 3 weeks and will have my heart shocked then to get it back into rhythm. My mother just had this done recently and it isn't a big deal (they say). I can't wait for it because I'm so out of breath!
I also just got diagnosed with a mild form of MS...somthing I've been thinking I had for years because I have a tremble (nobody can see it but it is very heavy to me!) So~I'm in a really great frame of mind...not scared...just ready to deal :)

Tomorrow is the last day of school here and what am I going to do with three boys home all day everyday????! Yikes!
The pools will open after Memorial Day...is that Monday?
I'm just jumping from one subject to another here...and none of it related to my blog topic of choice OLD STUFF :) Except I'll tell you this...I got the new book Vintage Vavoom only I ordered it used from Amazon (how can a newly published book be used already?) and it is a great book only mine didn't have a jacket! There is talk all through about Elizabeth Maxson (Elizabeth House shop/blog...we know her, don't we?)hmmm and someone else...can't remember right now. But it made me want to take photos of my vintage things in different arrangements. I've always wanted to be a stylist for a magazine :)

Here is what we had at the cookout!
Have you ever made Linguini Salad?
It is just a matter of cooked linguini, chopped vegetables of your choice, italian dressing and Salad Sprinkle-found in the spice aisle. People really love it!
I'm off to finally ship the items some of you bought at my friday flea market and well...good to see you!
OH! Thanks so much to friend COOKIE who was my guest blogger while I was away...she's a trip , isn't she? She brought us an amazing Lasagna and a strawberry pie last night! I think she might be running for FRIEND OF THE YEAR :)

Cookie's Morning Chatter

Thank you for the warm welcome and kind remarks on my guest blogging yesterday.
Our Shabby will soon return home but I couldn't resist sharing with all of you, one of my favorite photos of us together. Trust me, we have shared some mysterious, crazy and very funny times.
I like to call this day photo "Morning Chatter".
Shabby said to Cookie. "Why are you wearing pink today when you know that lavendar is much more your color? Is that a tattoo near the left side of your décolletage?”
Cookie replied, Shabby, that is a breast plate! What is that on your face?"
Shabby smirked and said "Silly Cookie, that is my beauty mark."
"Oh! Really? It's not working" was the only thing that Cookie could think to say.

It's Cookie Time!

Hello everyone out there in the blogging world of "Shabby in the City"! It’s Shabby’s buddy, “Cookie” guest blogging here today.
Don’t go looking for our Shabby at the house today, or out shopping for the *Friday Flea Market*. You won’t find her at the mall, watching a soccer game or even creating pretties for her ETSY shop. She’s not at a tea room for lunch, having cheesecake at a
a famous unnamed factory or even traveling to visit a friend.
Let’s just say that if she was planning time away from home, it wouldn’t be an area hospital…but that is indeed where she landed when she began rocking to a different beat on Sunday. She’s being treated for “Arrhythmia”. (An arrhythmia is any disorder of your heart rate or heart rhythm, such as beating too fast, too slow, or irregularly.)
I’ve talked to her twice on the telephone this morning, she sounds good and very positive. I can guarantee you that she has WAY too much planned for this week and the rest of the month to be confined to a hospital bed! She probably already has repurposed the room furnishings, designed new paper goods to spruce up her medical chart and spoken to the chef about adding a bit more spice to the food.
Oh how I wish all of you knew Shabby, like I know Shabby! Oh! Oh! Oh! What a girl! (Hey, THAT could be a song!...It already is?...Well then, I digress…)
"It's not junk. It's a collection!"
I hope that everyone will play along with me today because have some thing I would like to show you.
For many years I have loved the Wilton Armetale CABBAGE LEAF series originally designed by Bruce Fox. The original series was created sometime in the 1940s and included a large 3 1/2 quart Salad Bowl, a large round tray and a smaller individual serving Salad Bowl.
I love using my Cabbage Leaf pieces for family meals and when entertaining. I re-purpose some of the pieces and use them for decorating and baking. I’ve found these pieces in my collection in stores, flea markets and for sale on eBay. I’ve been lucky to find most all of it for reasonable prices.
Thanks for bearing with me today! I have been experimenting with my own blog for some time but it is still going to stay "under wraps" for right now. I have a very hectic "real life" but I certainly do enjoy reading about all of you in your blogs. Keep up the good work!
I know that everyone will join me in wishing Shabby a big "Get Well Soon!"
Feel free to comment today and send her your best wishes too. She will love hearing from YOU.
"A true friend warms you by her presence, trusts you with her secrets, remembers you in her prayers."

Six Unimportant Things

This old photo is totally random :)
I just wanted an excuse to post it...I'd love to pop in and order a croissant drizzled in chocolate truth be known....
I'm tagged by Wyanne!
Her art has been making me reeel happy so I can't say no to her! Her videos are incredible that she posts and speeds up of her making art.
I'd go look if I were you!
http://wyartjewels.blogspot.com/Six things:
1) I have officially quit biting my fingernails...don't even know when it happened as I also never knew when it DID happen
2) I have never had a manicure or pedicure and the idea of it makes me queasy. I think it is a waste of money.
3)I cut and color my own hair...told you I was cheap!
4)Being really nice to people, smiling and hugging is high on my list of priorities ...so I hope my not well-coiffedness doesn't stack up at all when people think of me...I think of myself of a kind of Meg Ryan in a carefree tossed about way...only not cute like her! I'm a child at heart. Playful and not too serious. Maybe this is an important thing after all...
5)T.V. is almost out of my life...American Idol is the only thing I've watched in forever...like a year...and David Cook and Syesha are just so talented AREN'T they?! Wow.
6)I am really flexible. I can stand with my feet and knees together...straight...and touch the floor with flat palms :)
Now I have to tag six of you unimportant people!
1)DarlaSue
2)Louise
3)Mary Isabella
4)Annie(fireflyhill)
5)KarkieJo
6)Beth Leintz
See you friday for the big flea market! Oh~I added some Etsy stuff yesterday...see ad up top!

Pretty Finds!

Mushy for Minton!
I found this vase recently at our local flea market for $10. I usually don't spend $10 on anything ;) so this is HUGE! Now of course, I'm watching ebay for similar items...this blue with these roses is right down my alley. This is the first time I've seen anything with Minton cross my path. Anddd...I can see a whole room done around this little piece of inspiration!

A yard sale score is keeping my sunnyside up as well! I was travelling through the 'old money' part of Nashville after visiting my poor mother in the hospital...me with double vision and one eye shut to drive ( a wonderful new addition to my life!)...I spot a yard sale sign! WHAT? In Belle Meade? Can they do that here?
So glad I stopped! I nearly bought out the sale which was being held by a set of twin sisters!
I got their little hatboxes WITH easter hats for $2 each. How could they?

Hat number one :)

Number two...

Even a third! With fruit on it.
My SUV was loaded and I want to show you all of what I got! Much of it was vintage office supplies and I'm working on an idea.

And rejoicing the return of a sweet friend~
